The rapid development of residential areas often leads to a decline in social cohesion and religious participation. In Teluk Bayur Utama, Malang City, the local prayer room (mushola) was underutilized, and many residents preferred to pray individually at home. This community service program was designed to revitalize the mushola as a center for worship and social interaction through the installation of an automatic prayer time clock.
The program employed a participatory approach involving local leaders, mushola management, and residents. Activities included initial surveys, coordination meetings, the installation of an automatic prayer time device, and training on its maintenance. Data were obtained through field observation, interviews, and evaluation meetings with the community.
The results show that the installation of the automatic prayer time clock increased residents’ punctuality in performing prayers, improved participation in congregational worship, and strengthened social relationships among neighbors. The mushola has become more active, serving not only as a place of worship but also as a hub for religious and social activities.
This initiative demonstrates that simple technological innovations, when combined with community participation, can significantly enhance the quality of religious life and foster a sense of togetherness within modern urban communities.
